Meet Brooklyn-based artsit, Leah Yerpe. As much as I love colour, I have to say, I also appreciate black and white figure drawings. Love the movement in these figures, not knowing where the drawing ends or where it begins on the paper. So they could be either floating figures or figures falling down?!. What do you think?

TEDxDelft will make sure to keep you young and inspired!

Just 1 days left till TedxDelft gets underway and I am so excited to be part of this very inspiring event! It will be a full day of BIG ideas, inspiration going on in little Delft.

So follow me Friday 5 October on twitter @susimenez as I live blog, tweet, film at the TEDxDelft.

This year TEDxDelft theme is ‘never grow up‘. Never stop asking questions, never stop wondering, always think of other ways to face challenges, always question why things are the way they are, keep wondering, keep on learning, always stay young, never stop dreaming, never stop doing, creativity by playing, work=play, gamification, living the dream, what do you mean, this cannot be done…inspired by Peter Pan

To give you a sneak peek of the line up, here are a few names I will be live blogging about.:

Pim van den Akker, Making everyday life extraordinary (presentation time: 12:42)

If you are into design, you don’t want to miss this presentation by the very talented Pim van den Akker. A Dutch designer who published his first book as his final thesis and then it went on to become an international best seller. Besides been recognized for his amazing floral design, he is also a furniture and lighting designer. I will be watching this presentation!

Arend Schwab – Why bicycles do not fall over (presentation time: 15:07)

Since I am not Dutch, but I do love riding my bicycle as my main mode of transportation in the city of Delft. I am sure there is more to discover about bicycle and why Dutch people can’t live without them.

Arend Schwab runs the bicycle mechanics lab and teaches mechanics at the Delft University of Technology. He has given academic talks related to his area of expertise in various universities all over the world. However, the concept of TED is relatively new to him.

Tom de Bruyne – I hate advertising and that’s why I’m in advertising (presentation time: 16:29)

Advertising is good and bad. How can I resist from such a title? Especially since I have worked in an advertising agency in Amsterdam and you can’t ignore that advertising is everywhere these days. Looking forward to sharing Toms presentation on advertising.

Tom de Bruyne, originally from Belgium, he studied clinical psychology, who ended up in the advertising world. He is passionate about making stuff with the ambition to excite people. Tom is founder and director at SUE Amsterdam, a start-up with the ambition to become an international creative agency for the digital era.

Spinvis – Cut up mini film stories disguised as pop songs (presentation time: 17:06)

Do not ask what the title means. I think we just have to listen to him and will figure it out by the end of his presentation. Erik de Jong, is better known as Spinvis, a one-man show using experimental and lo-fi (low fidelity) music. And has had great success in his home country, Holland… I don’t know if there will be much to blog about him during his presentation but I am sure it will be worth listening to while you are online.

Follow me on twitter @susimenez and to stay tuned with TEDxDelft.

Be inspired. Stay young with the live blog coverage of the TEDxDelft live, Friday 5 October.

A while back, I was excited to announce I was one of the finalists Samsung Global Blogger for the contest. I had to create a second, 30sec video about a sports event, use social media to spread the word and get some votes. Votes I did! I received a total of 1143 votes!!! Despite having the most votes within Holland, and for whatever reason (I will never know) it was not enough to get me through and become a global blogger during the London Olympics. …It was shattering news to receive after wishing for so long to be part of such an awesome opportunity. But as much of a disappointment it still may be. I have to keep telling myself, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’.

So, this is my chance to thank YOU for your support and votes! I might not be going to London but it’s a fantastic boost to keep making videos!

AND here is the good news; I entered my audition video at the zoopaa website for the chance to win some cash. Well, I received not 1 but 2 awards from ZOOPAA.com:

    1. 3rd prize overall: Blogger Audition
    2. 1st prize: Best From NetherlandsSee my audition video and all other videos at ZOOPPA.com.

I need to create a simple black and white flyer for a website/event in a few weeks….will share the details later, it’s very exciting stuff... In my search for inspiration, this is what i found through the behance.com website. I’m a big tea lover, so it’s not hard to love the complete tea series by Dimis Giannakoulias.

Really like the typography, the layout on this poster….and like to read about nasty habits!

I think this one has to be my favourite, my dear!

Indeed, thank god for TEA in the morning and afternoon tea…While you drink your tea, see the rest of the tea room promotional posters here.

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun…
John Lennon

Yes, what have you done? I found myself wishing for snow this Christmas, but it didn’t happen. Instead, we got very sunny days, presents from the other side of the world, delicious home-cooked dinner and i received lots of love. A good little Christmas after all.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,
Joy, Love and Peace! Xxx

Photos from last nights Evening of Lights Festival Lichtjesavond in Delft. There was so much to do, see and eat! It was bigger and brighter than last years event. Luckily, it was not too cold but a gluehwein was still in high demand! In case you’re wondering what’s in a gluehwein: Red wine spiced with cinnamon, cloves, sugar and the zing of an orange… but i will be adding many more pictures tomorrow!

November 5, marks another special day in my life, it’s my birthday today! Theres so much on my mind as i write that i’m better of enjoying my day and then i might have something interesting to write about A day out in Amsterdam with my other half. Will be on a quest to find a good patisserie, enjoy the sun, smile at everyone, soak up some culture and think about past birthdays, family, friends, travels, dreams and happy wrinkles… Xxx{ Images:  I am obsessed with how gorgeous, striking this painting is that i found via Pinterest. Unfortunately, i don’t know who the artist is?Picture of me taken by my dad in El Salvador, in the early 80s }

Bonjour Bonjour everyone!
Back on the road to sweet France for our summer holiday … only this will time around will be exploring the southwest coastline of France, and to my favourite surf spot in France, Anglet, oooh la la! … So by the time you finish reading this i’ll be either indulging myself with a mouth-watering pastries or i’ll be out in the surf! Will be away for 3 weeks … yeaaaai! … mmmm …x

After hours behind the computer, I´m so happy I´ve managed to figure out the widgets – side bar appearance. How to add an image, icon. Yes, crazy how simple things like that take ages when you don´t know what you are doing, and you fuss around so much with the look, appearance. It´s still not good enough because i need to get rid off lines that should not be there. Obviously not familiar with HTML, so everything seems to be going at a very slow – like a turtel walking pace. …but i am making process :-)
